  • Sadly due to a lot of trolls spreading filth and the new YT system being out of control I will disable comments from now on. Please use the forum https://www.thediyworld.com/forum and I would be happy to hear from you.

This week I spent most of my time working on small engines and some physical labor. I sadly forgot to take my camera tripod with me Tuesday and missed out on some very good footage of me rebuilding a self propelled lawn mower which I had completely torn down to take in for welding work on the deck.

Wednesday I was back at work on a commercial mower removing the hydraulic pump and drive motor. The pump had blown up and had to be removed. We hoped to be able to rebuild it but when I got it apart there were bits of metal all over inside and it was not worth saving. Due to all the small bits of metal I then removed and disassembled the drive motor to the rear wheel. It was full of metal shavings and had to be cleaned out thoroughly.

I also cleaned up the hydraulic lines. Then I put the hydraulic drive motor back together and on the machine again. It is waiting for a new pump and is out of commission for now.

Three of us went to the bridge over the creek where the road keeps getting washed out. We shoveled some more small stone gravel into the driveway to fill in the gaps and make it better for small vehicles to cross.

Later in the afternoon I drove another riding lawn mower onto a lift to see what was wrong with the mower blades. The center blade cuts too deep and leaves a visible path in its wake.

Sadly the deck is bent up badly so I had to remove it from the mower. It requires a lot of work to straighten out because it has been welded and repaired too many times and now it is quite a mess to fix. I am still not finished with this one yet.

Thursday I did not take my camera with me. We spent the whole day building up a sort of railing along the drive using heavy gum tree beams. This wood is left over from some lumbering work years ago and the wood is still in great shape. It is so heavy that it takes two people to lift a 6 foot section. A 12 foot piece requires 4 men to move it.
