So, you’ve got an SD9VE, but you’ve discovered that giving it a full 16+1 loading is major pain. Once you chamber a round, then load a mag full of all 16 rounds, and then try to insert the full mag into the pistol with the slide closed, you find that it’s VERY hard to get it to lock into place. You have to really, REALLY smack it into place or push really hard on it to get it to lock in. And then, once you do, you find that the top round is dragging on the underside of the slide so firmly that it can actually cause a malfunction after you fire the first chambered round.
Here’s how to fix it in a couple of simple, easy steps. Basically, trim about 1/16″ off the bottom points of the magazine follower, and then when you’ve reassembled and fully loaded the magazine, give it a few firm “squinches” to fully seat the spring and get everything settled into place. VOILA! A full 16+1 loading is now MUCH easier to achieve, now that the mag will easily lock into place when fully loade, and it won’t gouge up the casing of the top round and possibly cause a malfunction from excess drag.
