The warehouse is the key when the internal logistics of a business is as important as it is in the high-consumption sector where there are perishable goods and product rotation is a priority. This is the case for Dulcesol, one of the main Spanish Groups in the food supply industry.

A clad-rack warehouse with three stacker cranes, attends three, two-metre high aisles with conventional racks for palletised goods. A transfer car also connects the front of the warehouse with the dispatch section. In addition, a double strip of rollers that work with both euro pallets and half-pallets aids the connection between the storage and production areas. The fully automated system is designed to have strict traceability control and rotation of articles, a clear project requirement. To do this the warehouse management system, developed by Mecalux, is fully integrated into the Dulcesol production processes and is responsible for managing all internal movements.

The commissioning of this automated warehouse has allowed the company to reduce costs and to continue to grow when material storage was a limiting factor. Speed and operations are maximised and the tasks of order preparation and handling are simplified. Achieving optimisation had huge implications for operational cost savings.
