Combining double deep conventional racks with stacker cranes, as shown in the animation, involves what we call in the storage domain “a relocation”. These movements are necessary when it is desired to remove a pallet that is in the second location of the rack. It may seem a waste of time but stacker cranes are managed by a warehouse management software that optimizes movements to perform under several parameters, for example, the order of extractions.
