Located next to the impressive facilities of the Gibraltar-San Roque refinery, Cádiz, with a million and a half square meters and Cepsa’s largest production centre in Spain, Mecalux has built an automated clad-rack warehouse with the latest technology in automated storage systems, that connects the lubricant packaging area with the dispatch area… and all within the space already occupied by the packaging plant and without interrupting the normal work cycle at any time.
To achieve this, Mecalux designed and built this automated clad-rack warehouse from start to finish in the space already occupied by the lubricants packing plant. Its size is significant, being 34 m high, 90 m long and 51.3 m wide, with a storage capacity of almost 27,000 pallets. It is equipped with 7 stacker cranes with telescopic forks, and double-deep racks with 18 load levels. Various conveyor circuits and transfer cars handle the load movements between the different areas. The installation is completely controlled and managed by the Mecalux Easy WMS, warehouse management software, the use of which has many advantages. For example, it provides perfect stock control and the traceability of all SKUs, higher picking speeds and the optimisation of inputs and outputs.
In words of Stéphane Barthélémy, the Operations manager of Cepsa Lubricants, “The new automated warehouse is one of the largest investments made by Cepsa’s lubricants business. We have found Mecalux to be the ideal partner and the results are truly excellent… we have now successfully integrated our production, packaging and dispatch processes within a single installation.”
